The Accidental Photographer

About a month ago, I decided to try and apply for press credentials to the Baltimore Tennis Challenge. For those who aren't in the know, the Tennis Challenge is an annual event where Pam Shriver brings in some of the best tennis talent in the world to raise money for the Baltimore Community Foundation. This year's feature match is between number one ranked Lindsay Davenport and Russian uberhottie Maria Sharapova.

At any rate, I give them a call and the head of PR at the arena tells me to go ahead and fax a request over on my letterhead. Letterhead? Oh, oh yah letterhead! No problem, I'll fax it over to you first thing tomorrow. After going home and finding a letterhead template online, Tim Rahto Photography is born. In the cover memo I sent them, I encouraged them to check out my work at my website. Of course, I didn't really have a website yet, but I wasn't going ot let that stop me. I took the elements of the letterhead template and turned it into a photographer's website. I went ahead and registeded the domain name, hit up my friend Eric for some free space, and off I went.

It paid off.

I got the word on Wednesday that my press credentials had been approved and that I can pick them up today around 5 PM. The press conference starts at 5:30, the main event starts at 7, and yours truly will be there to capture it all. Wow, I'm a member of the media elite. How about that? Now all I have to do is figure out what to do with them. I've been thumbing through The Photographer's Market looking for leads, but I need guidance. Know anyone who wants to buy some Maria Sharapova photos? Let me know!
